Iphone to Verizon

With the very real possibility of Verizon getting the iPhone, I was left pondering what would happen to AT&T and Verizon. I think when Verizon gets the iPhone there will be a flood of people leaving AT&T for the iPhone. However, there are some limitations of the iPone on the Verizon network. With the Verizon network you cannot talk on the phone and multitask at the same time. This left me wondering if I would ever really need to do this. I have only done multitasked a few times on my iPhone, but would necessarily need to use this feature on the iPhone. Also, what would happen to the Verizon network if there was such a huge influx on their network? Also, would the iPhone loose its luster if everyone had one?
I think an interesting point that I have read about is what happens to the AT&T network when all these people leave? If people stayed with AT&T, there would be more space available on the network so that would mean fewer dropped calls. So should I stay with AT&T because of this new network availability? I am leaning towards staying with AT&T because of this network availability and multitasking.
I think another interesting point is why didn't AT&T invest in their network? They should have know that Apple was eventually going to offer the iPhone to Verizon. AT&T should have invested in their network so there was more coverage in areas and no dropped calls. If they fixed these problems then they wouldn't have the mass exodus that will happen when Verizon gets the iPhone. I don't think they invested because they thought people were going to get the iPhone regardless of the network because people wanted the Apple image.

  1. I recently read an article about the library of congress allowing the so called "jailbreaking" of iPhones which currently allows a jailbroken iPhone to be allowed to be put on Verizon or any other non-ATT network it will be interesting to see how this affects further provider manafacturer collaborations in the future.

  2. Yeah you can jailbreak your Iphone "legally" and get on the Verizon network.

I don't think you will see a flood of people switching to Verizon from AT&T just to get the Iphone on that network. I think what you will see is a lot of Verizon users choosing the Iphone since it will be available to them now as a phone option.

  3. I think that for the the majority of their exclusive contract together, Apple has been propping up AT&T. And I think the network has always been the problem. AT&T touts the fact that they cover 97% of Americans...this is the same as saying, we don't cover Americans in the states of: Wyoming, Vermont, North Dakota, Alaska, South Dakota, Delaware, Montana, Rhode Island, Hawaii, Maine, or New Hampshire...or anyone who happens to be driving through those states.

It seems like AT&T just got lazy. They thought that they could rest on their iPhone contract and maintain/increase their market share solely on that basis. They should have been continually innovating and improving their network so that Apple had an incentive to keep their contract exclusive. Now the most popular iPhone is going to be available on the country's biggest network, which I think could spell significant problems for AT&T.

  4. I agree with Josh. I don't believe there will be a mass exodus from AT&T to Verizion. While there may be some switching I feel like Droid phones will have the most competition as Verizion has, at least to this point, dumped the most support behind them. You can be sure that as soon as they have the iphone this will switch their marketing campaign to promote their "new" iphone. I am very interested to see how the Droid phones respond and how their sales do as a result.

  5. I recently left Verizon to get an iPhone. I love the phone, but the dropped calls are ridiculous. I was on Verizon before, and my phone almost never dropped calls. It is interesting to think that Verizon getting the iPhone might make AT&T's network better. I am hesitant to believe that this would really make a huge difference. I think Verizon just has a better network with wider coverage. I think I would probably go back to Verizon if they get the phone.

  6. Have any of you used Google's phone? It absolutely crushes the iPhone. Hopefully one day it will become the status symbol that the iPhone has become and maybe more people will shift to the superior network (verizon) as opposed to the awful AT&T network.
