I remember my junior year in high school in 2004 when everyone had MySpace. All my friends personalized their own pages and friended everyone possible. Then we got older and started to use Facebook. We soon realized that Facebook was a superior website to MySpace for a number of reasons such as a cleaner layout, security features, and the coolness of having a Facebook at that time. Now six years later MySpace is seriously hurting. They have 100 million less visitors than Facebook and that number continues to grow. The company that bought MySpace a couple of years ago is now reconsidering the funding of the troubled site. So how can MySpace regain market share in the social media market.
MySpace is considering a massive redesign of their website. They know that they are have enormous problems with their website layout. Since MySpace was fully customizable a lot of pages were very hard to read. They are considering getting rid of this feature for a cleaner look. Also, there is a large security problem. Many people would get friended by people they don't know creating a massive security and stalking problem. A major technology redesign is the most risky redesign possible. They are going to completely overhaul their entire website which leads to a larger possibility of failure. A company such as MySpace is redesigning because they are in a serious hole. They have to make critical redesign decision in order to attempt to regain market share in the social networking world.
I went to the "Social Network" this past weekend it was fascinating to see how Social Networks developed.
ReplyDeleteI think it is interesting to see the development and growth of facebook and see the decline of myspace. On the other hand, myspace has recently moved to more of a music and artist type service.
ReplyDeleteIt is interesting to see the change in the social networks and the technology as the trends in society change.
