After hearing the news about Facebook creating their own email, I was left wondering if I would use the service. There are some positive aspects about a possible Facebook email. One major positive would the the ability to have instant message, but gmail already offers the serivce. In addition Gmail has a problem sending pictures through email. I think that I would most likely not use the Facebook email service. I already spend enough time on Facebook as is and would like to not spend any more time on the site. I don't like the message system that Facebook currently uses as well. In addition Facebook updates and makes changes to their user interfaces very often and would not want to adjust every 6 months to a new format.

This is a great point. When I originally read the article I was thinking how smart that decision to incorporate email into facebook would be, but you are absolutely right. Facebook is a site where you can throw away countless amounts of time catching up or stalking your friends on the social scene. A much less serious way to spend time. Whereas email is a much more serious aspect of business where people communicate on business issues and tasks. When I arrive at work, the first thing I do is open up my email to check and see if I have any tasks from my supervisor. If I had to keep facebook open to view my email I would become an unproductive worker.

Also, you have to look at the companies that have banned facebook as an accessible site on their work computers. If a person is unable to access this Facebook Email at work, then they will not take this email seriously.

Great points Brian, but the Celtics will still lose to Lebron in the playoffs. Hah!

  2. Although we all spend way too much time on Facebook already, I think Facebook e-mail could be a positive thing. If we're wasting all this time on there already, why not make it productive? I might not feel quite as bad about spending so musch time on Facebook if I got a few things accomplished while I was on there.

  3. It will be interesting to see how consumers respond to this new system. I am not sure the new features are enough to warrant changing my email address.

  4. my first question to this is ... should we go ahead and reserve our name "jonathanforeman@facebook.com" for because everyone has searched there name to see that there is about 100 other ppl with the same name out there.

  5. Instant messaging isn't a facebook advantage. It's broken more often than not. Facebook is for stalking people, leave it at that.
